Campaigns

Email, community watch and directory campaigns: goals, search queries, daily limits, and how to write queries that find good leads.

A campaign is a goal plus a list of search queries. Approving a project creates the campaigns from its plan; after that, you manage them on the project's Setup tab, under Campaigns.

#The three kinds

KindWhat it findsWhere results go
Email outreachPages worth contacting: list posts, resource pages, reviews, newslettersLeads and Review
Community watchReddit and Hacker News posts matching your keywordsConversations
DirectoriesMore directories and launch sites beyond the starter listDirectories

A project usually has several email campaigns (for example "Roundup posts", "Alternatives to X", "Newsletters in the niche"), one community watch and one directory campaign.

#Campaign fields

FieldWhat it does
NameJust a label for you. Shown next to each lead.
activeUntick to pause the campaign without deleting it.
GoalWho to contact and why. For email campaigns this guides lead scoring, so be specific: "bloggers who publish lists of free browser games and would add a new one".
QueriesOne per line. Each run uses the next query, then starts over.
Emails per dayEmail campaigns only. First emails sent per day from this campaign (1–20, default 1). Follow-ups don't count.

#Writing queries that find good leads

Search engines return what people have published, so write queries that match the page you'd love to be on, not the product you have.

  • Aim at lists. best free tools for X, X resources for beginners, awesome X list
  • Aim at alternatives. alternatives to Competitor, Competitor vs, sites like Competitor
  • Aim at the audience's own words. how I learned X, my X setup 2026
  • Use search operators where your provider supports them: intitle:, inurl:resources, -site:pinterest.com

Look at what came back

After a campaign has run a few times, open Leads and sort through what it found. If most leads from one query are skipped for poor fit, rewrite or delete that query. Good queries produce leads you'd have been happy to find yourself.

#Community watch queries

For a community watch campaign, the queries are the watch keywords: exact phrases matched in Reddit and Hacker News titles. It's the same list as Profile → Watch keywords, and editing either updates both. Keywords and F5Bot

#Adding and deleting

  • + Add campaign at the bottom of the list opens a form for each kind.
  • Delete campaign removes the campaign. Leads it already found stay, labelled with the old campaign.
