How to get clients for your agency without buying lead lists
Small agencies win clients the same two ways: a referral, or a message that proves you understood the business before you pitched it. You can't manufacture referrals, but you can send a few genuinely personal emails a day to businesses in your niche, and answer the people publicly asking for an agency like yours. Bought lead lists and 500-a-day sequences burn your domain and your reputation.
Why agency outbound usually fails
The standard playbook is a scraped list, an email finder, a 4-step sequence and volume. Prospects get a dozen identical “quick question” emails a week, so reply rates collapse, and spam complaints get your sending domain blacklisted.
Personal outreach works, but researching each business properly takes 15 minutes, which a two or three-person agency can't do at scale. And the agency's own pipeline is always the first thing to slip when client work is busy.
How it works with Larvabot
- 1One project for your agencyAdd your agency site. Larvabot profiles who you serve and plans searches for businesses in those niches, plus posts where people ask for an agency like yours.
- 2Research done per leadEach business's site is read and scored for fit, with a specific detail to mention and the contact found on the page.
- 3Drafts you'd actually sendFirst-person, under 100 words, peer to peer, checked for anything that sounds automated. You approve each one; a few go out a day from your domain.
- 4One project per client, tooRun outreach for each client as its own project with its own analysis, sender, campaigns and reports, so you can offer it as a service.
- 5Report resultsThe tracking snippet attributes visits to emails, threads and directories, per project, so you can show a client what the outreach did.
Example
A three-person AI automation agency
An agency that builds AI receptionists and booking automations for dental and physio clinics adds its site.
- Email campaigns find independent dental clinics whose sites only take bookings by phone. Fit 82 for a clinic in Bristol, contact found on the Team page.
- The draft mentions that their site asks patients to call during office hours, and offers a 2-minute demo of an assistant that books outside them.
- Conversations surfaces a LinkedIn post from a clinic owner: “Anyone automated appointment reminders without a huge practice-management bill?” Score 84.
- They approve five emails a day. The second client's project runs separately, under that client's domain and sender name.

Harbourside Dental
harboursidedental.example
- Why reach out
- Independent clinic; bookings only by phone, 9am to 5pm.
- Detail to mention
- “Call us on 0117… between 9 and 5 to book”
Hi Priya, Your site asks patients to call between 9 and 5 to book. A lot of people only think about the dentist in the evening, so those bookings probably go elsewhere. We set up assistants for clinics that answer and book appointments outside hours, straight into your diary. Want a 2-minute recording of how it'd work for Harbourside? Dan Loop Automation
What Larvabot won't do
Worth knowing before you start:
- Larvabot finds businesses through their websites. It isn't a database of decision-makers with job titles, and it doesn't do LinkedIn automation.
- Sending is deliberately small: a few emails a day per campaign. Agencies wanting thousands a day should use a dedicated cold-email tool.
- Each client project needs its own sender and a sending domain that passes SPF, DKIM and DMARC, set up once per client.
Send the leads where you work
Send leads that reply into your CRM (HubSpot, Pipedrive, Close) with Zapier or Make, per project, so each client's pipeline stays separate.
Questions people ask
How do new agencies get their first clients?
From a narrow niche and personal outreach. Pick one type of business you understand, find 20 that clearly have the problem you solve, and write each a short email about something specific on their site. Referrals follow the first few results.
Is buying email lists a good way to get agency clients?
Rarely. Bought lists are shared with every other agency, full of stale addresses, and sending to them hurts your domain's reputation. Contacts found on the business's own site, written to personally, perform far better.
Can I use Larvabot to do outreach for my clients?
Yes. Each project runs independently with its own analysis, sender, campaigns, tracking and reports, so agencies run one per client. Pro includes unlimited websites.
